Best album? Well, this post is inevitable :D
Which one is your option?

Re: Best album? I don't know what to do... I'm totally undecided among the first three... Same here about Volcano. I'm not going to say I don't like this album, because that's not true, but I don't find this one fulfilling. I think the only song I really really enjoy is Possessed... Anyway, I'm not a musician...

- Certainly, Possesed was the so-called favorite among "old-old school" black metal bands such as Bathory, Hellhammer, etc. Yet again, alot of people think that the riff they used sounds too much like some popular Metallica one; and so consider it a rip off. Many people were dissapointed by the lack of blast-beats (there was not a one), creating wave of dissaproval among fans who consider Satyr's writing increasingly soft 'n trendy. I'm sure this change was not Frost's idea as when this album was released (2002) he vented much of his unused speed in KOK/1349. I say good for him!

Dark Medieval Times for me...such an amazing album, i love it.
satyridoll- 02-12-2005
For me the best one is DMT, of cours, then Shadowthrone, Nemesis, Volcano and Rebel extravaganza, with a special mention to the EP Intermezzo II. :D
@ Lora...you're nice :P

Re: - Well, in my opinion I feel that Dark Medieval Times was the best - most memorable...I do like the feeling of The Shadowthrone though...They're all so different, yet no matter how hard I try I am having difficulty reall getting into Volcano. It's definitely more first-wave ish plus an injection of modernity....the contrast is just too stark for me, but I'm trying!
I had my problems with volcano at first, too, but then I really started to get into it. I think it has a really cold and dark mood which appeals to me very much. Like an avalanche rolling down a hill, it might start slowly but you can´t stop it. It´s a very agressive album in my opinion but not in this fast and loud straight in your face way. It creeps up on you and then it got you.

I don´t have a favourite record from them so I am not going to vote...I like some songs on every record so far, so I just make my own mix of things I like. Satyricon is not one of my favourite bm bands, but I as I said I like some songs a lot, some I don´t care for that much. For me there are 3 bm bands whom I put above all else: 1349, Burzum and Darkthrone.

The Shadowthrone by far. It has both the sounds of DMT and Nemesis Divina. Great album
As far as Volcano goes - I was very hesitant purchasing it at 1st because of the bad reviews I read, but I decided to give it a spin for myself a few months after its release and was impressed. Its not the greatest cd in the world, but by no means is it bad. "Black Lava" being my favorite off of that disc.
InvertedSmile- 03-21-2007
I think I'm the only here who prefers Rebel Extravaganza above all the Satyricon cds. I find a lot of influences there and still a lot of original elements. It was the revolution inside their discography and I think for a band's growth it's postive to know when is the optimus time to risk with a radical stylistic change. But this tale could be mentioned in a special topic about the album. I must say it was my first Satyricon cd...

Well....I am going to take the dangerous walk out on the plank and say....I actually like Now, Diabolical best....lmao. don't anyone kick me :P
The Tester- 03-23-2007
LOL
Ok, then I will say that I already ate the words I spat out this past year.
I gave the motherfucker a chance and he won. It took almost 5 years but, hey, I never hid my annoyances are legendary. I think it was a mix between a revelation and pure resignation. I have spent so much time with this band that hating it now would be a total waste of it. Now I have to suffer that I did miss them live. Aaah, that's pride.

So you're saying you enjoy Volcano now Lora?
Has your opinion on Now, Diabolical changed at all?
Dragonmagic- 03-24-2007
I finally got a copy of DMT. I like it alot, but I find the fact that they have grown and not become stereotypical to be quite refreshing. So many bands aggravate me because every album sounds the same and it becomes quite boring. It takes a lot of time and creativity to reinvent yourself on every album.....not to mention dedication. I think Now, Diabolical is a brilliant album. It shows that they have accepted the fact that they have a broader audience and have adjusted to that fact. I don't find it to be lame or any cause to say they have "sold out"....lol. They still make some of the most amazing music anywhere and Frost is still a fantastical drummer. That in itself is something to be proud of. They are what got me into black metal and they will always be my favorite band.

I was referring rather more to Now, Diabolical. What I was saying is that suddenly I realized that nobody signed a contract specifying that I had to be pleased. And suddenly my whole opinion about Sigurd changed. Well, at least a part of my whole opinion about him, he's gonna be a decaffeinated snob anyway, lol. I think I lost my tr00-ness some time in february and now I just care if I like something or not. And he won and I like it.

Do you really think that they adjusted to something? I don't think that at all. I think Sigurd is doing what he pleases to do and nothing more. We all know that Fenriz's word is the law in our world and I recently found an interview from January 2005 in which he said:
- What do you think about Satyr's "transformation" since the days of STORM's Nordavind release?
- What transformation?
It was enough for me, lol.
